BIS Enforcement Action Highlights Export Control Risks for Software Updates and Entity List Transactions

On October 2, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced an administrative enforcement settlement with Lambda Research Corporation (Lambda) resolving 66 alleged violations of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) involving software exports, maintenance services, and automatic software updates provided to parties on the Entity List and Unverified List.
